  • What Do We Want, When Do We Want It

2007. USA. 5 mins. Directed by Alex Jablonski. Produced by Alex Jablonski.

This fascinating short presents the idea of war protest through the juxtaposition of urgent and casual pacing and space. Using a thought-provoking letter between a prominent writer and an important religious figure as a launching point, Alex Jablonski uses the interplay between crowded, real space and sparse, manipulated spaces, images, and contexts to nudge us, ever so gently, towards questions about our own modes of faith and complacency in a time of military conflict. • SNEAK PEEK

2007. Denmark. 69 mins. Directed by Michael Christoffersen. Produced by Mette Heide.

This film masterfully presents the trial of Slobodan Milosevic before the United Nations war crimes tribunal at The Hague. Revealing trial footage and probing interviews explore why the trial was so controversial. The former Yugoslavian president, accused of unspeakable war crimes in the Balkans in the 1990s, is shown to be arrogant and unrepentant,as are his henchmen who testify (one with shockingly foul language)during the trial. Serving as his own counsel, Milosevic mocks the entire process, providing fodder for the Serb nationalists who defend him rabidly throughout the film. Milosevic's death only months before a verdict was expected adds to the disconcerting incompleteness of the story.
