This film follows Central Americans on their long and perilous journey north to the United States in search of a better life. Once in Mexico, these migrants make their way by hopping trains, bringing to mind American Depression tales of hobos and vagabonds. But there is no romance in this story. Instead we find young men who have been maimed falling off trains and hear horrifying accounts of street gangs who prey on the vulnerable travelers. We are heartened, however, when we meet a group of rural Mexican women who make food each week and literally fling it up onto the passing railcars, recalling the earlier American story of the Underground Railroad.
