On August 28th, 2005, New Orleans resident Kimberly Roberts turned on her video camera to document “how it really is, starting right now.” Within a few hours, Hurricane Katrina was pummeling her home in the Ninth Ward, mere blocks from one of the soon-to-fail levees. Kimberly tirelessly continued to film her husband Scott’s and her excruciating ordeal, from their night huddled in a cramped and leaking attic to the subsequent protracted search for shelter and financial support. Filmmakers Tia Lessin and Carl Deal take this extraordinary footage to craft a brilliant, transformative film about beating the odds and surviving in the face of massive government ineptitude, indifference, and neglect.
