Guided by the drift of smoke and dreams, the Buddhist monk Tenzin Zopa sets off on a quest to find the reincarnation of his recently deceased master, Lama Konchog. Entrusted with this ultimate responsibility by the Dalai Lama himself, Zopa embarks on his mission with equal parts hesitation and hope. His search takes him across the austere Tibetan countryside as he looks for the “unmistaken child” who will prove he harbors Konchog’s spirit, a boy Zopa will need to remove from the care of his parents and deliver to the Kopan Monastery. Stepping into the role of leader for perhaps the first time, Zopa matures on the journey, only to be subordinated to his spiritual master once again—but with excellent grace. With stunning cinematography, director Nati Baratz crafts a rich and contemplative portrait of religious faith, devotion, and the shifting tides of loneliness and companionship. SB |
