Now accepting applications for the 2019 Teach the Teachers program

The deadline to apply is February 25.

    Apply for Teach the Teachers

Teach the Teachers is open to any middle or high school instructor within the Durham Public School system.

The 2019 program will take place on the following dates:
    March 14: Pre-festival meeting (5:30 pm)
April 4 – 7: Full Frame Documentary Film Festival
Week of May 6: Post-festival meeting (afternoon)

Since 2011, the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival has run the enormously successful free documentary literacy program Teach the Teachers, which allows six Durham educators to attend the festival free of charge. These education professionals watch and discuss films, learn to use documentary to facilitate a deeper understanding of curriculum, and apply the principles set forth in John Golden’s book Reading in the Reel World: Teaching Documentaries and Other Nonfiction Texts (National Council of Teachers of English, 2006).

Each teacher receives educational credit for completed work, and the cost of their substitutes is provided by Full Frame to place as little financial burden on the schools as possible. Many participating teachers utilize these new skills by creating lesson plans for our annual free Youth Screening in November. We are thrilled at the synergy these two programs provide educators and our local schools.
