“Three Songs for Benazir” Nominated for an Academy Award

Join us in celebrating Elizabeth Mirzaei and Gulistan Mirzaei’s short film Three Songs for Benazir (Full Frame 2021) on being nominated for an Academy Award in the Documentary Short Subject category!

The held its world premiere at the 2021 festival last June, where it received Oscar-qualifying status after winning the Jury Award for Documentary Short.

Full Frame is one of a handful of Academy Award-qualifying festivals in the world.

Elizabeth and Gulistan Mirzaei’s moving short film shines a light on life for refugees in modern-day Afghanistan through the story of Shaista, a young man who—newly married to Benazir and living in a camp for displaced persons in Kabul—struggles to balance his dreams of being the first from his tribe to join the Afghan National Army with the responsibilities of starting a family.

Three Songs for Benazir is now streaming on Netflix.

The Academy Awards will be held on March 27.
