Documentary Experience 32 SOUNDS Comes to Duke
“A rare and rewarding sonic journey… I doubt I will ever hear things quite the same way again.” -Peter Debruge for Variety
On Saturday, January 25 and Sunday, January 26, 2025, Oscar-nominated documentarian Sam Green will present 32 SOUNDS at Duke University’s Reynolds Industry Theater. 32 SOUNDS is an immersive documentary and profound sensory experience that explores the elemental phenomenon of sound. The film is a meditation on the power of sound to bend time, cross borders, and shape our perception of the world around us.
For this live cinematic performance, each audience member will be given headphones to create an incredible binaural sound mix and add a new, deeply immersive element to the live documentary form. Sam Green will narrate the documentary from the stage in front of his projected film. The soundtrack will be composed and performed live at each screening by the legendary DJ/composer JD Samson.
Sam Green is a long-time friend of the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival; his past featured films include LOT 63, GRAVE C (Full Frame 2007), THE UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE (Full Frame 2011), UTOPIA, and PART 3: THE WORLD’S LARGEST SHOPPING MALL (Full Frame 2009). THE WEATHER UNDERGROUND screened as part of the 2006 Full Frame Thematic Program.
32 SOUNDS is presented by Duke Arts with support from Full Frame Documentary Film Festival.
