City at Peace
NEW DOCS
This film documents a year in the life of a unique musical production. The cast of this theater piece is comprised of teenagers—spanning many races—profoundly separated in ways that go beyond ethnic diversity. They begin rehearsals cautiously, suspiciously. Like A Chorus Line, they tell their own stories, stories that will become the libretto for the full-length musical. Gradually, the segregation dissolves as their painful histories bind them. This film becomes more than the sum of their revealing individual voices. As the cast comes together in song and dance the audience embraces what may be only a temporary, albeit inspirational, healing.
