Fastpitch

NEW DOCS

Small-town, backroads middle America is the playing field for the barnstorming teams of the fastpitch softball league. Filmmaker Jeremy Spear signs on as shortstop with a team from Ashland, Ohio, including teammate Shane Hunuhunu, Maori tribesman, slugger extraordinaire and sweetheart to Ashland’s fairest daughter. On the road, living almost hand to mouth, grizzled veterans and rookie dreamers encounter the empty stands, the fading legends and the opposition—like Zack, the full-blooded Ojibway pitching phenom, or the Florida promoter who wants to spend his way to the top. Come tournament time, the boys from Ashland are still in the game, and only luck and money stand in the way.
