Kumar Talkies

NEW DOCS

In the streets and countryside of India, a Bombay film director returns to his father’s old cinema to discover what cinema means to people in a small town. Posters are put up, tickets sold, projects run and viewers encouraged by loud-speaker manned advertisers. Townspeople talk about their philosophies of film and family members recall their experiences with this venture. Kumar documents the importance of cinema in Kalpi but also its implication in the larger drama of filmmaking in India. And in the midst of all this, he shows the meandering pace of daily life in his former small town.
