Sarajevo Film Festival Film
Thematic Images of War, Visions of Peace Curated by Lisa Muskat
How does one justify holding a film festival in the middle of a major war? Here, bombs fall, shots rattle off, yet people run in and out of the theaters. Film provides an escape, even in a war—“there are a certain number of things that you cannot live without and still be alive and among them is film. It is a way of dealing with the world and its magic, and people cannot live without magic,” the festival director justifies. “This film festival in Sarajevo tells you that freedom exists even beyond the end of the world.”
