Director John Columbus’s introspective look at his childhood summers spent on the Jersey Shore with his parents and sister. The nostalgic black-and-white footage accompanied by The Beach Boys’ “Surfer Girl” aptly contrasts the difficult struggles his family would face in the years that would follow. Through it all, the shore remained a constant source of renewal and ultimately, years later, would become home to Columbus’s own family.  DC
