Thematic Hybrid: A New Film Form Curated by Mary Lea Bandy

Experimental photographer/filmmaker Frampton records burning on camera, on a hotplate, 13 of his photos from an unhappy period in his career, 1959-1966. Each photo is seen in silence, then is burned while artist/filmmaker Michael Snow narrates information about the next photo to be destroyed, at once explaining and mystifying the work and the process. One medium records the destruction of another, one artist speaks the words of another, and memory and anticipation compete for our attention in this seemingly simple yet complex hybrid film.
