Sam Fuller once famously said that the only way to truly represent the reality of war would be to machine gun the audience. Unable—and unwilling—to do that, instead there is Occupation: Dreamland, a terrifying journey into the lives of soldiers of the 82nd Airborne stationed in Fallujah in 2003. They call their base Camp Dreamland, a place where they can take a breather and dream a bit between midnight search-and-destroy missions among the terrorized civilian population. The power of this film is that it is neither the work of embedded journalist nor of anti-war activists. Ian Olds and Garrett Scott delve deep into the process that makes young men both resist and succumb to the dehumanizing sensuality of killing other human beings.  RD
