Matthew Barney: No Restraint

NEW DOCS

Best known for his operatic Cremaster Cycle, artist Matthew Barney embarks on a new project that draws upon his earliest creative developments. No Restraint is an illuminating look at the artist’s process during the shooting of his latest film aboard a Japanese whaling ship in the Nagasaki Bay. Watching him with his crew—and revealing his accessible persona—the filmmakers provide Barney the space and time he needs to decode his enigmatic work for the viewer. With commentary from his co-star and partner Bjork, gallerist Barbara Gladstone and Guggenheim curator Nancy Spector, among others, the artist’s process is rendered comprehensible, perhaps for the first time.  KH
