Eloquent Nude: The Love and Legacy of Edward Weston and Charis Wilson
NEW DOCS
Charis Wilson was a free-spirited California girl when she first modeled and fell for photographer Edward Weston in 1934. This engaging film shows that Charis was an active participant in Weston’s art despite their 28-year age difference. Her reflections on life with Weston are amply illustrated with his photographs, and she’s opinionated and frank at age 90. She recalls their extended cross-country trips, which allowed him to take pictures and for her to write and their Carmel, California home, a “palatial shack,” a place of artistic productivity. Useful re-imaginings add to our understanding; we are shown the way Charis tumbled down sand dunes while Weston’s camera made some of his most luminous and well-known images. NK
