The Last Days of Yasser Arafat

NEW DOCS

Australian journalist/filmmaker and second-generation Palestinian, Sherine Salama, travels to Ramallah on a quest to interview Palestinian President, Yasser Arafat. She first arrives at Arafat’s besieged compound in September 2003, where she encounters helpful colleagues, curious soldiers, stonewalling aides, and everyday Palestinians. She is ultimately thwarted in her first attempt to get an interview, but Salama returns to the region with renewed resolve. Will she finally gain access to the Palestinian’s beloved leader and protector? The film takes us inside Arafat’s inner circle, the media frenzy surrounding the leader’s final, mysterious illness, and sweeps us along on a personal quest to connect to the man devotedly called Abu Ammar by his comrades and followers.  DP
