Robert, Mary and Katrina

NEW DOCS

In this minimalist masterpiece, New Orleans residents Robert and Mary Manuel face the camera shortly after Hurricane Katrina. There is no editing, no news footage, no intervention whatsoever—just two people telling their story directly. After more than 50 years together they are truly able to talk together, completing each other’s thoughts, empathizing and emphasizing with the smallest gestures and expressions. Katrina was powerful and destructive, but these beautiful and loving people were able to escape and survive. Simple and effective, this highly “uncinematic” film is true to its triumphant subject.  TBW
