The Sky Turns

Thematic Migrations Curated by Lourdes Portillo

The filmmaker travels to the village in Northern Spain where she was born to produce this breathtakingly beautiful meditation on place. Impressionistic cinematography focuses attention on the way light looks and feels in a particular place and how those patterns repeat and change over the course of a day, a year, and a lifetime. That pattern of repetition and change is echoed in the fate of the village, which, just as it teeters on the brink of extinction, finds itself renewed by a wave of new migrants.
