Blindsight
Invited
Appalled by the plight of blind people in Tibet—children who are blind are shunned from school and society—Sabriye Tenberken, a young blind German woman, established the first and only school for the blind in Tibet, Braille Without Borders. After hearing of blind mountain climber Erik Weihenmayer’s ascent to the top of Mount Everest, she and her students invite him to visit their school. They are so inspired by his achievement that Tenberken and six teenagers agree to join him and his team for a journey up the 23,000-foot peak Lhakpa Ri on the north side of Mount Everest. With every obstacle against them, the group sets out on a three-week, life-changing adventure that tests their mettle, both physically and emotionally, as never before.
