Lower Ninth Ward

NEW DOCS

A ten-minute assemblage of tracking shots captures a shattered New Orleans neighborhood in the early morning mist. Each of the caved-in houses and crushed objects bears witness to the sudden and devastating interruption of Katrina. As we contemplate an almost archaeological portrait of a once-thriving neighborhood, the ghostlike images and an evocative soundtrack prompt us to meditate on the vanished community. Not a single person appears in the film, which only underscores the scale of human loss—and of the human culpability attached to it.  ST
