Pig Country
NEW DOCS
Jakob Vallo is a third-generation pig farmer in Denmark. This tender short documents his struggle as the financial crisis takes its toll and he is forced either to refinance or lose the family business. With his young daughter at his side, Jakob takes care in his work tending the pigs and preserving the pastoral way of life that is now in jeopardy. At one point he must make the decision to put down a diseased pig, taking it out of the misery laid before it by fate. The somber connection to his own predicament is woefully apparent. Has the time come to cut his losses? This beautifully crafted film from director Andreas Koefoed (12 Notes Down, Albert’s Winter) offers another subtle, luminous portrait of life’s passages. ST
