The silence of pomegranates

NEW DOCS

Using a combination of visually experimental techniques, archival footage, fruit imagery, and scenes from Italy, The silence of pomegranates shares the experience of an anonymous Italian woman who was made to endure a pregnancy that was no longer viable. In Italy, since an abortion after 90 days is only legal if the woman’s life is in danger or the fetus has serious abnormalities, this expectant mother was forced to grapple with the physical and emotional toll of waiting for her fetus to die naturally, which she was told could take days or weeks. This short yet powerful film sheds light on an issue that affects countless women worldwide. BD
