Meet Mr. Toilet

Tribute Jessica Yu

Forty percent of the world population does not have access to a toilet. Enter businessman Jack Sim, who aims to break the taboos around talking about basic sanitation. His argument is simple: 1.5 million children die unnecessarily each year due to water contamination. If toilets can become a desirable status symbol, worldwide sanitation will improve, and one of human beings’ most basic functions will no longer have drastic health effects on those downstream. In its brief four minutes, this film reminds us that “what you don’t talk about, you cannot improve.”  ST
