A Letter Without Words
NEW DOCS
A Letter Without Words reconstructs the emergence of Nazi rule in Germany along with the story of a family caught in momentous historical change. This compelling film presents astonishing footage of the Nazi rise to power and evocative private moments in the carefree and elegant daily life of this family. The documentary footage was made by the grandmother of the filmmaker, who fled to America in 1938 with a suitcase full of her film. The footage was stored in an attic until found by Lisa Lewenz in 1981 long after her grandmother’s death. Through the combined perspectives of the two women living in different times, one better understands links of the past to the present and future.
