Agent of Happiness

NEW DOCS

How does one measure happiness? In Bhutan, hailed as one of the happiest places on earth, they have a formula for that. Bhutan’s Ministry of Gross National Happiness enlists happiness agents to travel throughout the country and administer a 148-question survey to its diverse citizens in order to assess their satisfaction on a scale from one to ten. One such agent is Amber. Over 40, unmarried, and living with his mother, Amber’s own happiness is in question. A hopeless romantic, he longs to find love and start a family, but his citizenship status is a barrier to realizing his dreams. As Amber delves into the range of social, emotional, and financial factors that impact his countrymen, the complexities of his own happiness quotient begin to emerge. richly cinematic, tender, and at times, surprisingly funny, Agent of Happiness takes its time with its subject, and extends an invitation to viewers to consider the beautiful and fragile meanings and possibilities of a life well-lived.
