An all-inclusive resort on the Turkish Riviera brings tourists from around the world to its beaches each summer—anticipating the influx of tourists, the resort hires our protagonists, Hakan and Ismail, as seasonal help. Hakan, a wayward college dropout who quotes Nietzsche and Kierkegaard, is assigned to lifeguard duty. Ismail is a sweet and enthusiastic people-pleaser who wants to be a hairdresser but for now must settle for working in the kitchen. Both have come to the resort with dreams of learning English, improving their fortunes, and eventually moving to the United States. As the novelty of the tourists’ excesses wears thin and the pressures of providing hospitality increase for Hakan, Ismail begins to grow in confidence and come out of his shell. Will they both have a successful summer and be invited back for next year?  BD
