Almanac

NEW DOCS

The metallic click of type being set mixes with voices talking about Midwestern things—the disappearing Iowa prairie, poet Paul Engle, and the lingering effects of the 1980’s farm crisis. These are the sounds of The Wapsipinican Almanac, an annual journal produced by hands-on, turn-of-the-century printing equipment by Timothy Fay in his rural Iowa workshop. Filmmaker John D. Scott weaves a portrait of Fay’s quiet dedication to place and time—and an almanac which harkens back to the era before mass markets, when individuals and places were inexorably tied.
