In the stark winter landscape of Canada’s Pacific coast, a dedicated team of wildlife rehabilitators treats bald eagles suffering from lead poisoning after ingesting hunters’ ammunition in animal remains. The recovery process presents a difficult paradox—the clinical interventions required to purge the toxin are often almost as physically taxing as the poisoning itself. Through long uninterrupted takes and a sparse soundscape, this tender study provides a detailed look at the rigorous science and specialized care required to stabilize these majestic birds, as well as the inherent challenges of caring for wild animals within a human environment. By focusing on the quiet, day-to-day realities of the treatment, the film touches on the broader implications of a toxic system that binds the fate of the eagle to our own.
