Bride Kidnapping in Kyrgyzstan

NEW DOCS

The central Asian tradition of snatching young women against their will for marriage has been in resurgence since the breakup of the Soviet Union. This funny and frightening documentary shows all sides of a controversial practice in a modernizing country. One witnesses the on-the-street abductions, the attempts to convince the “bride” to accept her fate and the negotiations with her family members. The kidnappings in the film range from playful to truly dangerous, and the outcomes can be surprising.  NK
