Bye Bye Babushka
NEW DOCS
“Farewell Grandmother” reflects on an age gone by through interviews with female survivors of Russia’s revolutionary era. Some of those portrayed: a wise, uneducated collective farm worker; a dedicated party member; stridently preaching Lenin’s life and words; a university professor; an activist whose husband “disappeared.” Interspersed with these outlooks are those of younger women whose lives are radically different. Through the stories and scenes of how the survivors live and work, the film paints a sensitive, intriguing portrait of lives making the difficult transition out of Russia’s communist past.
