Chavez Ravine: A Los Angeles Story

NEW DOCS

In the 1940s, the Los Angeles neighborhood of Chavez Ravine was home to 300 Latino families. As in many American cities in the 1950s, these families were forced to leave their homes to make way for an urban renewal project—an ambitious low-income housing project. However, the project never materialized and today Dodger Stadium occupies the former Chavez Ravine. Using historic photographs of the families as well as contemporary interviews—and with a surprising twist—Mechner tells a cautionary story of community, deception, and loss.  AT
