Coded Bias

NEW DOCS

Facial recognition programs and the algorithms that track our data are biased, according to the findings of MIT Media Lab researcher Joy Buolamwini and her team. Coded Bias takes us on an engaging journey through the world of data science, specifically artificial intelligence and machine learning. Traveling around the world, it shows us why we should care about the invasion of privacy and the biases embedded in these rapidly developing technologies. Buolamwini captures our attention with a simple though disturbing discovery that leads to revelations that are even more startling, some of which Buolamwini contextualizes through poetry. The implications of these findings are profound, with each layer revealing further issues. At the core of this documentary is humanity itself.  BC
