Coma

NEW DOCS

A deeply moving and disturbing film that follows four patients at the Center for Head Injuries at JFK Medical Center during the course of one year who have just emerged from comas. What we get is an unrelenting mix of high-strung emotions, fascinating medical facts and insights into the workings of consciousness, and most poignantly, a window into the worlds of those left behind holding their loved one’s hand. Imagine waiting for a slight crease in the mouth that could be interpreted as a smile; the smallest facial gesture, which could signal a possible recovery, or not. This is a journey into the minute details of what it means to be conscious. It is a journey into the marvels of miraculous recoveries and the terrifying and daunting realization that you might be left holding that unresponsive hand for the rest of your life.  RD
