Corman’s World: Exploits of a Hollywood Rebel

Invited

Movies about movies have become their own fabulous genre. Entertaining and studded with Hollywood luminaries, Corman’s World traces the astoundingly prolific career of Roger Corman, the director and producer of hundreds of B movies. Now in his late eighties, Corman gave Jack Nicholson his start and was a mentor to a young Martin Scorsese, Jonathan Demme, and Ron Howard. Forty-two years ago, he was on his one hundredth movie. And he’s still churning them out. He may be best known for lurid horror movies, but films like The Wild Angels and The Intruder are proof that there’s more to his brilliance than the fast implementation of bad special effects. Clips from his movies and interviews with those who worked alongside him, including Julie Halloran, his wife and producer of over forty years, paint a picture of a truly independent artist at work. This is a man who would rather “improvise a film in three days” with no money (as he often has) than be handed a blank check.  ST
