Dancing for You

Full Frame Jury Award for Best Short 2016

NEW DOCS

Halling is a Norwegian folk dance that resembles a cross between Riverdance and jujutsu. An expression of joyful rivalry and one-upmanship, the dance is usually reserved for the boys, but twelve-year-old Vilde is not intimidated. Inspired by her granddad’s valiant struggle with cancer, Vilde kicks her way into the national Halling championships. If this underdog story sounds like vintage Hollywood plotting, the practice routines are the stuff of MGM’s most lavish musicals, as Vilde and her coach prance their way across stunning Nordic landscapes. Replete with sweeping vistas and sumptuous cinematography, Dancing for You is pure cinematic joie de vivre . . . with some extra bounce in its step.  TAW
