Daughter from Danang

NEW DOCS

The 2002 Grand Jury prize winner at Sundance, this beautifully made film tells the story of Heidi, the now-grownup daughter of a Vietnamese mother and an American serviceman, who returns to Danang to meet her birth mother. She’s one of 2000 children who, in 1975, were removed from their families, airlifted out of Vietnam and adopted in the US. Heart-wrenching cinema verité footage shot during Heidi’s visit shows the unexpected consequences of having one’s dreams come true.  NK
