Eden End

NEW DOCS

This hypnotic compilation film pairs a lush Chopin score with archival footage from mid-century educational and documentary films to stage a fall from grace in a manifestly American Eden. Juxtaposing scenes of families enjoying beach vacations with images that depict the inevitable consequences of their wholesomely oblivious consumption, director Enrique Baixeras suggests that it is not apples or demon reptiles but fossil-fuel-powered machines, leisure time, and the desire to encounter the exotic that have conspired to destroy the Garden.  MP
