NEW DOCS

Steeve Day has been suffering from ALS for the past eight years. He is confined to a wheelchair and is no longer able to speak, communicating by typing on an electronic device. Now nearing the end of his life, his ability to say his goodbyes to friends and family is hampered by the Covid-19 pandemic, as visits to hospitals are suspended and social distancing prevents in-person meetings and travel for loved ones. Refusing to be deterred, Steeve decides to rent an extended-stay hotel room to recover a sense of normalcy in his last days and find a slice of domestic bliss with his girlfriend. Filmmaker Joris Cottin’s tender and eloquent portrait of love in a time of difficult realities is deeply moving and profound in its respect for Steeve and its exploration of the boundaries of what is possible when the body fails but the mind remains sharp and yearns for connection.  TS
