This beautifully composed short film provides a new take on the notion of “deconstructing an icon” as we witness the assembly and transportation of a gargantuan plastic and fiberglass figure of Pope John Paul II. The film’s whimsical, artistic sensibility draws our attention to the workers and onlookers involved in the statue’s peculiar journey through the Polish landscape to its ultimate exhibition site, the world’s largest sacral miniature park. The film simultaneously conveys the sense of awe attached to this figure of the pope and a lighthearted sense of retrospective irreverence about iconography, mythmaking, and religious kitsch.  AM
