Freedom Summer

NEW DOCS

This investigative documentary takes us back to that moment when the only thing that mattered was making the U.S. a country worth living in for every single citizen. In the Deep South, Mississippi was the last frontier of the Civil Rights movement, and when SNCC workers devised a plan to bring white students from the North to register voters, they created tensions among local black workers and fueled fury among white Mississippians. Three young civil rights workers were ruthlessly murdered in a nefarious plot to sabotage the voting campaign. Friends, colleagues, and family members of the slain heroes remember a time when brave activists had their lives taken for social justice. Can this generation of young people be reminded that each and every vote is a precious victory?  SW
