Gaea Girls

NEW DOCS

“I don’t stand out in a crowd. I want to be someone.” And who Takeuchi Saika wants to be is a professional—in the world of Japanese women’s wrestling. The film follows her through her struggles at the Gaea Japan training camp for over a year, as she desperately tries to prove herself capable of fighting in the ring. The day-to-day struggles of the recruits and the trainers are juxtaposed with the strong convictions of the “master” Nagayo Chigusa, who pushes the girls like a dominant coach and mother. It is a new and unusual setting for the exploration of the classic struggles for ambition, power, desire and courage.
