Genghis Blues
NEW DOCS
The mysterious and ancient art of Tuvan throat singing is not immediately associated with American Blues. At once agile and profound, Genghis Blues chronicles the journey of blind blues legend Paul Pena and an eclectic group of musicians and filmmakers as they travel to the isolated country of Tuva to participate in the national throat singing competition. Pena’s exuberance at discovering both the people and music of Tuva is contagious and director Roko Belic captures the spirit of camaraderie between Pena and his Tuvan counterparts with remarkable deftness and a lighthearted edge. The transcendent power of music moves this wonderful film.
