Goodfellas

Thematic Hybrid: A New Film Form Curated by Mary Lea Bandy

Throughout his career, Martin Scorsese has brilliantly documented the world around him. Not since Mean Streets had a subject seemed more tailor-made for his talents than the best-seller telling the true saga of Mafioso Henry Hill. Faithful to the narrative of the real story, the director created a perceptive portrait of a dangerous man and his milieu with the force of an investigative reporter yet also as an observer aware of the confounding history and ambivalence of such lives. The result is a kind of comedy/drama/documentary that gives hybrid a good name.
