Home of the Brave — Land of the Free
NEW DOCS
The reality of US operations in Afghanistan as you’ve never seen them before. An American Special Forces unit travels around the country trying to win the hearts and minds of the bemused population. The members of the unit are appealing and gung-ho. They raid, interrogate, ransack women’s private chests, distribute toys and food, destroy opium, the people’s main source of income, and blow up armaments. The narration is laconic. A film in the tradition of a Graham Greene novel: American innocents (and innocence) abroad blundering through an alien land they do not understand to ambiguous accomplishments. DP
