It’s My Life

NEW DOCS

More than 4.5 million South Africans are living with HIV/AIDS. Zackie Achmat is one of them. As the leader of the Treatment Action Campaign (TAC), Achmat and his followers take on the big pharmaceutical companies. TAC’s hope is to force these drug companies into making the life enhancing anti-retroviral drugs more affordable and available to the masses. The film also follows TAC’s fight against the South African Government, a political machine whose President and cabinet members deny that the HIV virus is linked to AIDS. In deference to the cause, Achmat puts his own life in jeopardy by refusing to take anti-retroviral medicine. It’s My Life depicts the personal fight of one individual in the middle of an immense political battlefield.  NEN
