John Huston — War Stories
Thematic Images of War, Visions of Peace Curated by Lisa Muskat
“Making a documentary,” John Huston says, “wasn’t really any different than making any other film except that the material reveals itself, tells its own story.” Huston was sent to Europe to make propaganda films so that the Americans could cheer their boys on. The hardship, destruction and mental trauma he recorded, in such films as Let There Be Light, was banned by the Pentagon. This film combines rare footage from Light and The Battle of San Pietro with interviews to show the relationship between media, propaganda and war.
