Kate Plays Christine

Invited

News anchor Christine Chubbuck’s on-air suicide in 1974, the tragic inspiration for Sidney Lumet’s 1976 feature Network, remains as mysterious as it is infamous. Forty years later, this inscrutable event is reconsidered by director Robert Greene (Actress, Owning the Weather) as actress Kate Lyn Sheil relocates to Sarasota, Florida, to research her role as Chubbuck. Sheil visits the people and places that were part of Chubbuck’s mysterious and lonely last days, and a suspenseful and immersive investigation emerges. As clues and speculations mount, Sheil’s obsessive preparation brings about an uncanny transformation, and the lines between past and present, and real and fiction, begin to blur. While the production moves forward, Chubbuck’s (and Sheil’s) motivations remain elusive, providing an intimate backdrop for Greene’s moody and discerning inquiry into what it means to inhabit a role and to apprehend the past.  TM
