KITE

NEW DOCS

The narrator of this short film begins a simple story: his father complained of heart pains, so he took him to the hospital. But what follows slyly subverts our expectations, dissolving the clinical setting into a beautifully synthesized hybrid of documentary, animation, and magical realism. Through intricate sound design and layered visuals, a son’s recollections transform into a more subliminal journey, where the physical world gives way to the textures of memory. A Greek tradition—flying kites on the first day of Lent, known as “Clean Monday”—becomes an evocative metaphor for the space between holding on and letting go. As we move from the hospital to the home to the open sky, KITE reveals itself as a moving testament to family bonds and a cinematic meditation on the ties that bind us. PB
