Lo and Behold: Reveries of the Connected World

Invited
The Internet. Robots. Virtual reality. Artificial intelligence. These embryonic technologies are poised to deliver a future that’s wildly different from the present, not to mention the past, but what will it mean for humanity? Lo and Behold: Reveries of the Connected World tries to see where we’re headed, checking in on scientists, futurists, and the inventors of uncanny machines, while also giving screen time to gaming addicts, the cyberbullied, and other casualties of the Information Age. Our guide is Werner Herzog, the Bavarian bard of eclectic documentary, who follows where his curiosity leads and peppers this zigzag tour with his wryly dramatic asides. He loves enigmas and paradoxes, repeatedly asking his subjects, almost to the point of inanity, “Does the Internet dream of itself?” Here’s another question: Does this worthy addition to the Herzog oeuvre prove that our connected future is best pondered by a director who doesn’t own a cell phone?
